What is the difference between a PCI and an AGP card?
PCI (peripheral component interconnect) and AGP (accelerated graphics port) are two different ways of connecting peripheral or add-on cards to your computer. Intel created the PCI bus, and it has been around for a while. It is the way most peripherals are added to your computer. Until recently, it was how video cards were put into your computer. If your computer is fairly new, it probably has an AGP slot. AGP cards feature a dedicated data pipe that cuts directly to your computer’s main RAM, allowing the card to communicate rapidly with the central nervous system of your computer. In theory, AGP cards have twice the bandwidth offered by PCI cards.
