What is the difference between a packed elf and an unpacked elf?

A packed elf is compressed, and at runtime is uncompressed into ram, and loaded from there. Packed elfs are generally smaller in size then unpacked elfs, and can save large amounts of space on the memory card. It is very similar to UPX compression for exe files.
