For the 2007 competition the ESRC will continue to offer the Proposal (Open) competition awards with fewer available. There will be approximately 100 total awards available in the Proposal (Open) 1+3 and +3 competition. Students who wish to apply for the Proposal (Open) competition can download the application form. For 2007 the majority of the awards have been allocated to ESRC Recognised Departments. These departments are guaranteed a fixed number of awards by the ESRC and they have responsibility for selecting a nominee for each Nomination (Quota) place and informing the ESRC of their chosen student. For Nomination (Quota) awards students should apply directly to the course of choice and not to the ESRC. Nomination forms are only available through departments with ESRC Nomination (Quota) awards, although you may be asked to complete a university application form as part of its selection process. Nomination (Quota) awards consist of both 1+3 and +3 studentships.
