What is the Difference between a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie and other Pork Pies?
There are a couple of visual distinctions alone which mark Melton Mowbray Pork Pies as separate from pork pies of other types. The first is the shape of the actual pie itself. Melton Mowbray Pork Pies are baked free standing, not in a ring or mould, therefore they have a shape perhaps not unlike a pot-bellied stove, where they bulge outwards during the cooking process. The second difference is in the colour of the meat in the pies. Melton Mowbray Pork Pies are made from natural, chopped pork and therefore the meat is slightly grey in colour, whereas other pork pies (such as the one pictured above right) are made from cured, minced pork, giving a distinctly pink colour to the finished article.
