What is the difference between a long waterpump and a short waterpump?

0

The long waterpump is the same length as the stock waterpumps used from the 1960’s to 1993. The long waterpump kit is designed to work ith the 1986-1993 5.0 lilter Mustang waterpump (Ford Racing Performance Parts number M-8501-C50). This is a reverse rotation waterpump with the water inlet on the driver’s side. The short waterpump kit requires a 1994-1995 Mustang 5.0 liter waterpump. If more room is needed between the engine and the radiator, this combination will give you about two more inches of clearance than the long waterpump. Keep in mind that to run the short waterpump, you will have to change your timing cover and run an electric fuel pump. A water pump and timing cover kit is available from Ford Racing Performance Parts (number M-8501-A50).
