What is the difference between a Legal Paternity Test and a Peace of Mind Paternity Test?
DNA testing procedures in the laboratory are no different between a Legal Paternity Test and a Peace of Mind Paternity Test. They only differ in the way samples are collected. A Legal Paternity Test is recognised by Australian Law Courts and Government Agencies. All persons must have their mouth swab samples collected by an independent third party (usually a registered pathologist) and legal documents must be completed according to the Family Law Act. Appointments for DNA sample collection are made for all persons at pathology centres near their home and all legal paperwork is organised. Peace of Mind Paternity Tests are not recognised by Australian Law Courts or Government Agencies. All persons take their own DNA samples by using the free DNA collection kit sent to their home.
