Hypothesis – A proposed explanation for a phenomenon, for it to be a hypothesis though there should also be some way of testing it. To put in simpler terms, its an educated guess, what you think is going on before you experiment, then you would test your hypothesis with the experiment to confirm or refute it. Theory – This is a tricky one, the scientific meaning of a theory is something which logically explains the natural world. In physics a theory is generally constructed from solid mathematics, but in other disciplines a theory would provide a model for the real world (such as evolution). In my eyes a theory is basically something which may or may not be whats actually going on, but it does a good enough job of explaining the situation that it can be used without trouble.
