What is the difference between a Humane Society and an animal control agency?
Humane societies were created by concerned individuals to protect animals from people. Animal control agencies, on the other hand, were created by governments to protect people from animals. Animal control agencies are funded by taxes from local government. Humane societies depend upon the donations from individuals and businesses in the community. Although both organizations have some of the same programs, animal controls are generally responsible for picking up strays and enforcing local animal codes. Humane societies are concerned in adopting homeless animals, rescuing animal, investigating animal cruelty, preventing the overpopulation of animals, and educating the public about humane treatment of animals.
