What is the difference between a graduate certificate and a masters degree?

A graduate certificate requires six courses(24 credit hours) and is designed to help students sharpen their abilities or add to their skillset through a shorter, focused program. Credits earned through a graduate certificate program may be applied toward a master’s degree in the same specialty area. A master’s degree at University College requires twelve courses(48 credit hours) and prepares students with an extensive, interdisciplinary education in their chosen field or area. Students who pursue a master’s degree will complete a Capstone, a research project or paper that is a culmination of the coursework completed throughout the program.
