What is the difference between a global field experience and a practicum?
A practicum is a significant educational experience of 200 to 400 clock hours in a public health agency, institution, or community that allows the student to apply practical skills and training learned through coursework and prior experiences in a professional public health work environment. All students are required to undertake a practicum to satisfy degree requirements. You can find more information through Career Services’ Practicum Web Client webpage. A global field experience is simply an opportunity for a student to work in another cultural setting to gain experience in his or her chosen area of work. Many students use their global field experience to fulfill their practicum requirements but some students undertake a practicum as part of a work-study opportunity or other work during school.
