What is the difference between a Glacier Route Alaska cruise and an Inside Passage Alaska cruise?

Inside passage cruises typically sail on seven day itineraries roundtrip from Seattle, Washington or Vancouver BC. These sailings travel through the inside passage in Southeast Alaska, also called the “panhandle”. Itineraries vary by ship but most turn around in Juneau or Skagway. Glacier Routes cruises are sometimes referred to as “Gulf of Alaska” cruises or “Voyage of the Glaciers” cruises for their additional glacier viewing opportunities. They are seven day, one way cruises that sail between Vancouver BC and either Whittier of Seward Alaska. They include the sights and ports of the Inside Passage, but also additional glacier viewing destinations like college fjord and the rugged coastline along the Gulf of Alaska. The Inside Passage cruises can be a good introduction to Alaska cruising. However, we highly prefer the Glacier Route cruises, not only for the additional glacier viewing, but the chance to explore Alaska by land before or after your cruise.
