A combination boiler(standard efficiency) provides central heating and instantaneous hot water,(no storage cylinder).A condensing boiler(high efficiency) which can be a combination boiler,open vented boiler or system boiler extracts latent heat from the flue gases to work more efficiently as the others have already explained.
