What is the difference between a GA/GRA/GTA?
A Graduate Assistant (GA) in WSU is not entitled to full tuition waiver. He/She has to pay 1/3rd of the out-of-state fees. A GA position can be obtained in your department or in places like the library, health center and other departments. In addition, a stipend will also be given. The stipend depends on the nature of the job. A Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) has the same benefits as a GA. Generally, a GRA will work under a professor. A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) will get full tuition waiver if he/she handles 20 hours of teaching work. Otherwise, the benefits are the same as that of a GA. A minimum score of 50 is required in TSE to obtain a GTA. All assistantships are generally for 1 semester after which they have to be renewed. However, there are some cases of assistantships being given for a year also.
