What is the difference between a Future Land Use Map and a Zoning Map?
• Future Land Use Map The Indian River County Future Land Use Map is part of the county’s comprehensive plan, which was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on February 13, 1990, and has since been amended. The Future Land Use Map controls the overall development pattern of the county. As such, the purpose of the future land use map is to ensure the efficient use of land and infrastructure, and protect the county’s natural, economic, social, and cultural resources. The Future Land Use Map also ensures that adjacent land uses are compatible with one another and that land use densities and intensities relate to the availability of services and facilities.
