What is the difference between a faculty advisor and a professional counselor?
Faculty advisors and professional counselors generally perform the same tasks, but with some exceptions. Faculty Advisors are first, and foremost, faculty members. They are in the class room, teaching and advising students. They are a great resource for obtaining specific information about course content, the appropriate sequencing of courses, etc. Likewise, professional counselors advise students, however, they are trained to provide personal/social, career and educational counseling, in addition to academic advising.
