What is the difference between a down payment and a refundable deposit?

Your down payment on your cake is 50% of the cost of your cake plus any special fees such as rental of certain equipment or delivery fees and sales tax. The down payment secures your wedding date on my schedule. The refundable deposit is a nominal fee that is 100% refundable with the return of items belonging to Marilyn’s Magic Cakes. The purpose of the cake deposit is to provide motivation for people to bring my reusable supplies back to me. Items to be returned are such things as cake boards, pillars, plastic cake plates, rented top ornaments or other non-edible ornamentation. These items are due for return within 3 days following your wedding at which time your deposit is refunded. A $5.00 per day late fee is applied for every day past the 3 day grace period. If leaving immediately for a honeymoon, a designated person may return the items and your deposit will be mailed back to you.
