What is the difference between a divorce (dissolution) and a legal separation?
Both divorce and legal separation are legal proceedings that deal with such issues as custody, support, and the division of property and debt, either by agreement between the two parties or by order of the court. The only difference is that at the end of the legal separation process, you and your spouse are still married, although you can file your taxes as a single person.
