What is the difference between a course and a seminar (CEU)?

Courses are graded. Some are transferable into a degree program, check with that institution to determine the course. This is always determined by the receiving institution, not UCLA Extension. Courses counting towards the certificate must be taken for a letter grade. Seminars or CEU (continuing education unit) classes are non-graded and are not transferable into a degree program. Seminars or CEU classes can count towards the certificate, but are limited up to 7.2 CEUs. 0.9 CEUs are equivalent to 1 unit; 3.6 CEUs are equivalent to 4 units; up to 7.2 CEUs of seminars may be taken to equal 8 units. In order for students to apply credit from a seminar towards the certificate, they must attend during the hours listed in the course description. Failure to do so will result in no credit earned.
