What is the difference between a counselor and an academic advisor?
A counselor is a B.H.C. faculty member, as well as, a Masters-level professional trained in counseling. Counselors assist in the areas of personal-social decision making, career development, overcoming career blocks, educational planning, academic advising, academic anxiety, assertion training, stress management, grief and loss, learning strategies, time management, study skills, test taking, traumatic events, wellness, communication/relationship skills, cultural issues, values clarification, crisis intervention, and other issues as needed. Counselors also work with faculty and staff as consultants and trainers. Counselors also provide all services of academic advisors.
