What is the difference between a corporate, subsidiary or regional managing office and holding company (Item 18)?
Corporate, subsidiary, and regional managing offices are establishments that provide management, supervision, general administrative functions, and supporting services for other establishments of the same company. Generally enterprise support establishments do not provide services to the general public or to other business firms. In contrast, holding companies do not administer, oversee, or manage other establishments of the company or enterprise whose securities they hold. Holding companies are legal entities primarily engaged in holding the securities of (or other equity interest in) companies and enterprises for the purpose of owning a controlling interest or influencing the management decisions of these firms.
