All motions submitted to a National Convention are separated into three types of motions: constitutional, policy, and directive where: • A constitutional motion, if adoptedby the membership, would result in a change to the party’s constitution orbylaws • A policy motion, if adopted by themembership, would articulate what the Party and Party members would work towardif elected • A directive motion (or simply “directive”), if adopted by the membership, would otherwise givedirection to the Party itself. • If there are large numbers of policy motions, policy motions are further grouped into Shadow Cabinet or Federal ministry areas.
