What is the difference between a conditional discharge and a suspended sentence?

I can only add to Bardic’s answer: Since the Criminal Justice Act 2003 Suspended Sentences must consist of a number of requirements. They cannot be made without a Supervision requirement (routine supervision and enforcement by an officer of the probation service), and any combination of the following requirements – alcohol/drug/mental health treatments, Unpaid Work (community service), residence, specified or prohibited activities, accredited offending behaviour programme or curfew (Tag). A Suspended Sentence IS a custodial sentence where as Conditional discharges are nowhere near as serious a sentence and no where near as challenging.
