What is the difference between a clam and an oyster?

0

They are both “bivalve mollusks” so they are related – but distantly. One of the big differences between the two is that oysters anchors themselves to something underwater, like rock or deep roots and they stay there for their entire life – but clams can move around in the tide and in a crude swimming motion that involved opening the shell and closing it quickly to push themselves up or around. (Of course, they have no idea where they are going, they are just trying to escape danger) And you probably know that only some species of Oysters produce pearls, no clams produce pearls. Typically we do not eat pearl-producing oysters. For eating – the two taste different, and each has a variety of types that grow in different areas and taste differently. Personally – I like clams but I have a hard time eating an oyster.
