What is the difference between a child care center and a family day home?
A child care center is usually licensed to keep a larger amount of children. They may offer more programs as well. A family day home is usually licensed to keep a smaller amount of children. The children there usually see the same staff every day and parents sometimes prefer the more intimate home like atmosphere. They both strive to ensure children’s saftey and development. It simply comes down to a parent’s personal choice. Please note, not all family day homes are licensed though. This is something a parent needs to ask. By being licensed, a family day home must meet certain standards set forth by the Va. Dept. of Social Services.
