What is the difference between a Certified Nutritional Practitioner and a Registered Dietician?
Certified Nutritional Practitioners are granted their designation after completing a demanding program of study set by the Institute of Holistic Nutrition. Along with completing multiple case studies, they must complete core courses in human anatomy and physiology, organic chemistry, Ayurvedic medicine, nutritional symptomatology, preventative health care, herbal medicine, life span nutrition, nutrition and the environment, fitness and sports nutrition, comparative diets, advanced nutrition research, holistic food preparation, nutritional pathology and professional practice. Many CNPs join the Canadian Association of Natural Nutritional Practitioners (www.cannp.ca) and obtain the Natural Nutritional Coach and Practitioner (NNCPdesignation). NNCPs must abide by strict codes of ethics or face consequences like losing their designation and the right to practice. NNCPs must complete annual upgrading requirements to keep their title.
