What is the difference between a CD-ROM and a CD-R?

0

The CD-R is a “recordable” CD. You can record data or files from your computer onto a “blank” CD-R. This provides a perfect solution to recording unique presentations, customer files or customized information on each individual disc. The CD-ROM does not allow this capability since the data or files are copied into the disc as it is being manufactured. The CD-ROM is best used when you want the same data or presentation on every disc.

” ROM” means Read Only Memory, “R” means Recordable. If you want to get discs with no data on them so that you can create your own CDs, then you are looking for CD-Rs. If you want your discs full formatted, you should look for CD-ROMs.
