What is the difference between a career counselor and a career coach?
Generally, career coaches work with their clients in a relationship that is more interactive and directive than in most counseling. Goals are not merely identified, but ultimately achieved. I am certified as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) through The Center for Credentialing & Education. To receive this certification, one must complete intensive instruction in career development theory and practice (in my case, I studied at the Center for Education and Work at UW-Madison) and also log a minimum number of hours working in the field. Be aware that searching online, you will come across coaches with widely differing backgrounds and training, some of whom have paid for training from online institutes.
