What is the difference between a bridesmaid and lady in waiting?

0

Lady in waiting (she waits on the lady of the house- like a servant) Bridesmaid is short for Bride’s maiden. This means her friends prior to marriage. It is an OLD custom that once a maiden marries; she no longer is seen with her friends, but only with her husband. The maidens do NOT attend to the bride like servants or “maids”. They are her friends and stand up at a wedding to say farewell to her and her singleness.
