A 3″ higher bed raises the mattress 3″ higher from the ground. You may want a higher bed to increase the space under your bed (for storage) or if you simply have a thinner mattress and would like to have more distance from the top of the mattress to the floor. A 3″ bigger gap raises the headboard in relation to the mattress thereby allowing for a thicker mattress.
