What Is The Difference B/w An Ionic Bond And Covalent Bond?

0

An atom is a neutral body because it has same number of positive and negative charges. When an atom loses or gains electrons positive or negative ions are formed. When the number of the protons in an atom is greater than the number of electrons, then atom becomes a positive ion. A bond which combines two ions that are negative ion and positive ion, is called ionic bond. Electrostatic force is present between two ions in an ionic bond. The compounds or substances having ionic bond in them are called ionic compounds. If the outer most shell of an atom is incomplete, then the atom is unstable. Atoms are combined with other atoms to complete their valence shell or to become stable. When two atoms share an electron pair to become stable, the bond present between them is called ionic bond.
