What is the difference and advantage to steel shafts vs graphite?

Answer Hey Annette, Graphite is lighter, but doesn’t always mean that the club will feel lighter or be easier to swing. Probably the biggest advantage to graphite shafts is that they dampen the vibrations of impact a bit, and therefore can be helpful to people with wrist problems, tendonitis of the elbow, etc. If your husband is over 60 or so, or has some kind of inflamatory issue or arthritis, I might recommend the graphite. If he’s still younger and doesn’t have any of these ailments I’d say just save the extra money and go with steel. There aren’t many technical advantages that graphite offers over steel. In fact, the steel shafts are usually more consistant from one club to the next. If graphite were really that superior, everybody on the PGA tour would be using graphite shafts. They almost all use steel! Something to think about… I hope this helps!
