What is the Democratic Partys position on abortion?
Perhaps Governor Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has said it best in his speeches to audiences across the country: “I don’t know anyone who is pro-abortion.” Virtually every Democrat in public life believes that we should be working together to significantly cut the number of abortions performed in the United States. The abortion plank of the Democratic Platform has four sentences: The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.
