What is the defintition of gothic architecture?
Gothic Architecture came from the belief of the people that it came from the Goths, hence, Gothic. This period is defined by the deviation from classical lines for they find new ways to express their architecture. The three basic elements of Gothic Architecture- rib vault, flying buttress and buttresses- helps Gothic Architecture to be known to have a lofty and aspiring quality, posesses structural honesty and economy in terms of use of building materials. This period also introduces ‘grotesque’ figure by applying gargoyles in their design.
