What is the definition of mosaic art?
The mosaic style of construction and design simply embeds tiles of glass, stone and/or ceramic into mortar. Impressive examples of this decorative art form can be found all over the world from the elaborate murals and marble tile floors found in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, to the incredible gold tile works in basilicas and cathedrals across Europe and intricate and complex designs found in palaces, mosques, synagogues and temples across Africa and Asia. Normally, to be considered mosaic art, a work needs to be one of a kind and original, rather than a common pattern. For example, a tile floor with a common repeating pattern, can be considered a mosaic, but not mosaic art unless it has some unique one of a kind quality to the design.
