What is the definition of gender identity/gender expression?
According to section 39.01(10) of the codified ordinances of the city of Bowling Green, “gender identity or expression” means “having or being perceived as having a gender identity or expression whether or not that gender identity or expression is different from that traditionally associated with the sex assigned to that individual at birth.” Gender expression/identity is the most difficult concept to grasp. This category is the most alarming for many parents who are trying to protect the moral character and to reduce confusion among their children and young adults. Biology dictates physical characteristics that we associate with gender, and when people perceive their gender in another manner in public, many parents get overwhelmed with how to politically, morally and politely explain these situations.
