What is the definition of “escapement”?
There are three types of escapement that are used in the management of Fraser sockeye stocks: Spawning Escapement – the number of fish arriving at a natal stream or river to spawn. Fisheries and Oceans Canada conducts the spawning ground surveys that produce the spawning escapement estimates for Fraser River sockeye and pink salmon. These numbers represent the number of fish which have escaped the fisheries and are available for spawning.
