What is the definition of classical music ?
The term “classical” is commonly used generally to mean serious art music as opposed to popular music, but the term “classical” actually refers to a specific period of serious music. The works of Stamitz, Gluck, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven (his early works) represent this style and time period.Time FrameThe Classical period began in the early eighteenth century (after the Baroque) and lasted until the nineteenth century when its forms and rules expanded into the Romantic Era. Not every work from that time period is considered Classical, and some composers were composing in the Classical style well into the mid-nineteenth century. National trends varied as well.CharacteristicsThe characteristics of Classical music are similar to those of Classical art: balance, proportion, simplicity and painstaking craftsmanship. In music specifically, rhythms became more complex. Music gradually became louder or softer (crescendos and decrescendos), and forms expanded.Instrumental FormsRepresentative
