What Is the Definition of ARC Flash?
Definition 1 A term used inwelding, specificaly electrical welding, where a person or persons have been expossed to the incredibly bright light generated by an electrical arc. This causes sore red, swollen eyes along with the feeling of having sand in the eye, and a chronic head ache. Also causes blurred, blind spot, looked at a lightbulb too long type vision. Effects are mostly temporary but prolonged exposure could cause permanent eye damage. Definition 2 Arc flash occurs when a mechanical type electrical switch is turned off or on. Electrical current wants to continue to flow (this is called EMF or electro motive force), so as the contacts of a switch are pulled apart the current jumps the gap causing a brief electrical arc.
