What is the definition of a spouse for my benefit plans?
• A spouse from whom you are legally separated is not eligible for coverage; • A common-law spouse must have been living with you for at least 1 year on a continuous basis, must not be related to you by blood, and must be recognized as your spouse in the community in which you live. (completion of a common-law declaration is required.) Note: the definition of spouse does differ for the Universities Academic Pension Plan, Public Service Pension Plan, and Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.
