A biblical allusion is a reference to some story from the Bible. By knowing the stories, you can understand the references. One well known allusion is David versus Goliath. Now, it means that an obvious underdog overcomes the far superior foe. This is a reference to that story in the Bible, and allows people to get a deeper understanding of the passage.
