What is the definite role & limitatations of FBI, CIA, US Marshal & other naagencies in national security?
Unfortunately, they don’t have definite roles. The FBI is supposed to in charge of federal investigations within the country. The CIA is supposed to be in charge of intelligence in foreign nations and against foreign nationals within in the country, though the FBI seems to have jurisdiction over those people as well. The US Marshalls are somewhat more clearly defined. They protect the courts and judges and enforce their rulings. So, for instance, US Marshalls were instrumental in ensuring desegregation. The other federal law enforcement agencies are extremely well defined, being limited to either a specific location (like the Capitol Police) or specific statutes (like the ATF), but there is some overlap with them and all the other agencies.
