What is the deepest hole ever drilled in the earth?
Man’s deepest penetration into the Earth’s crust is a geological borehole near Zapolarny in the Kola peninsula in Arctic Russia, begun on May 24 1970 and reported in April 1992 to have surpassed a depth of 40,230 feet (12,262 metres). The eventual target of 45,000 feet was expected in 1995; whether they made it I can not find out.
