What is the dean’s letter?
After the dossier leaves the department, it goes to the dean’s office. For actions that are redelegated to the dean for final decision, the Joint Academic Federation/Senate Personnel Committee (JPC) evaluates the dossier and appended materials and makes a recommendation on the action. The JPC writes comments regarding their evaluation of the candidate’s performance and makes a recommendation to the dean regarding the advancement. This recommendation then goes to the dean for approval or denial. In general, the dean writes comments only if he/she disagrees with the recommendation of the JPC.
