What is the deal with the limitations on viewing cams?
On Saturday Nov 6th 2010 we maxed out our 1G uplink, this has never happened before and it is a very serious thing because it means that the server is instantly unreachable. Analysis revealed an influx of a large number of non-members that had multiple cams open, some only two but many had (many!) more open and this caused an enormous amount of bandwidth to be consumed by a relatively small number of users. As of Sunday the 7th the following limits are now in place: – guests can view 1 cam – logged in users cam view 2 cams – cam owners can view 4 cams – elite members can view an unlimited number of cams All these numbers are based on simultaneous viewing, people that have their own cam on can always view that cam in addition to the limit. When you switch from one cam back to the index it can take up to 10 seconds for the server to realize that you are no longer viewing that cam, which means you may get the warning message in error, in that case simply wait a few seconds and try again.
