What is the deal with the Hawaiian shirts?
In my first cross country season at Waldwick H.S. a senior on the team (We will call him Joe) said that there is a tradition unique to the cross country team where the entire team wears loud and obnoxious shirts because the XC jersey isn’t something that they want to wear to class. (On game days the athletes of all sports usually wear their team jersey to get pumped up). Well, being new to Waldwick HS and wanting to establish pride for the cross-country and track & field teams, I thought this was a great idea. The next morning as I wandered the halls before my first class, I noticed that not one member of the cross-country team was wearing an obnoxious shirt…except for me. Well after some long stares and a bunch of laughs I ran into Joe and gave him a very nasty look. Good thing for him that he was wearing the worst plaid shirt I have ever seen.
