What is the de Tocqueville Society?
The United Way de Tocqueville Society derives its name from the French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville, who toured the United States in 1831 and applauded the voluntary spirit that lives in America’s heart. Members of the de Tocqueville Society provide exceptional leadership by investing $10,000 or more annually. The United Way of the Concho Valley de Tocqueville Society was formed in March of 1984 to deepen individual understanding of, commitment to, and support of United Way’s work: advancing the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all. The de Tocqueville Society recognizes local philanthropic leaders and volunteer champions around the world who have devoted time, talent, and funds to create long-lasting changes by tackling our community’s most serious issues. Membership in the de Tocqueville Society is granted to individuals who contribute at least $10,000 annually to a member United Way.
