What is the datum/projection of Puerto Rico?
The Puerto Rico Datum of 1901 is based on its origin at Cardona Island Lighthouse with a defining azimuth to Ponce Southwest Base. The Datum is referenced to the same ellipsoid as NAD 1927 which is the Clarke 1866. The island is now on the NAD83, and the Grid parameters have changed slightly. Information on ALL of the LEGAL Grid Systems of the United States, its Possessions and its Territories are available free from the U.S. National Geodetic Survey. Try ( http://www.ngs.noaa.gov ). There is software available for FREE there as well as U.S. Geological Survey sites and also from the U.S. Army Topographic Engineering Center (TEC) at Ft. Belvoir, VA. Everything on this topic for Puerto Rico is available from the U.S. Government for free. The man who knows the most on this official topic is Mr. Dave Doyle DaveD@NGS.noaa.gov . by: Clifford J.
