What is the Data Source Alias?
SAP is introducing Data Source Aliases as additional, abstract names labeling server side database connection pools. The server administrator can easily assign several Data Source Aliases to each physical database connection pool. For example, you can connect to the server using the Visual Administrator UI and assign arbitrary Data Source Aliases to each existing connection pool using the JDBC Connector Service. The Data Source Aliases are intended to be a somewhat application-specific name. This will help the server administrator be aware of which application is using a specific connection pool. To make sure there are no name conflicts you are asked to reserve the Data Source Aliases you intend to apply, namely directly at SAP.
