What is the current unemployment rate in the state of Wisconsin?
Local unemployment rates for June 2009 were released Wednesday. Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Roberta Gassman released the numbers, saying seasonal work did have an effect on last month’s numbers. “In June, Wisconsin experienced a mostly seasonal bump in unemployment as students and others entered the job market looking for summer employment,” Secretary Gassman said. “Surveys of employers also showed an increase in jobs across the state, as a whole, and in most metropolitan areas. While pleased with an increase in jobs, we continue doing all that we can to help job seekers, workers and employers weather the global recession.” All 12 of Wisconsin’s Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) saw an increase in unemployment numbers from May to June. When compared to rates of June 2008, all 12 MSAs also had higher unemployment rates last month. In June, the Madison MSA had the lowest rate at 6.6 percent. The Janesville MSA again recorded the highest unemployment rate at 13.
