What is the current status of works on the Royal canal and when is it due to be open to navigation to Clondra?
A. Substantial restoration works have been carried out on the Royal Canal. Currently testing and leakage repair works are ongoing. Two deepgate jetties at 43rd and 44th locks and service blocks in Mullingar and Enfield will be completed this year. Negotiations are continuing with Westmeath County Council for the provision of a water supply for the canal. It is envisaged that the Royal Canal will open to navigation in 2010.
